The Governor Oglesby Mansion located at 421 West William Street in Decatur will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, November 24th.

The Governor Oglesby Mansion located at 421 West William Street in Decatur will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, November 24th. The doors will open at 2pm and the Mansion will close at 4pm. A $5 per adult and $2 per child donation is requested. Members of the Board of Directors and community volunteers act as docents during the tours. The home is maintained as a museum dedicated to the legacy of three-time Illinois Governor Richard J. Oglesby.

The museum is maintained by donations to the Gov. Oglesby Mansion, Inc not-for-profit and the structure is owned and maintained by the Macon County Conservation District. The two entities work closely to preserve the mansion that is in Decatur’s historic district. There are many original features inside the home such as the pocket doors, original flooring, fireplaces and woodwork. The Oglesby family has donated various Governor Oglesby heirlooms that are on display throughout the mansion. This is the only surviving home the Governor once resided in.
